As we have reported in the past, the number of active agents in the Valley is difficult to pin down. There are 3 main cleansing periods throughout the year. The local REALTOR® associations, ARMLS, and Supra all clean up their membership by sending annual bills. The latest of which was the $120 Supra bill sent back in August.
Total invoices sent out on 8.20.08 – 32,694
Total payments received as of 10.20.08 – 24,372
Number of cancellations as of 10.20.08 – 1,063
Number of deactivated accounts due to non-payment as of 10.20.08 – 7,259
Total reduction of lockbox keys as of 10.20.08 – 8,322
That’s a 25% reduction of Supra lockbox keys.

Who needs a Supra key anymore?
So many non-Supra (at least the blue ones) keyboxes are being used right now you could in all practically exist fairly well without one! ;-()
Phil–as always–great posts– I especially enjoyed your vacant listings one!
I’ll be finishing up my Top 50 list (see http://www.jimrejournal.blogspot.com ) by month’s end–watch for it–you’ll recognize a few folks mentioned on the last 10…
Take care!
Jim
Thanks Mr. Zirbes!
I totally agree. I went and looked at 4 bank owned properties last weekend w/o a Supra key. One of them was such a wreck a locked front door did no good – there was no back half of the house!
Of course when it comes down to making a purchase decision I wouldn’t want to do it based on the properties without a Supra lockbox – but I guess some could.
Thanks for the comment. I look forward to your list…
Phil
Thanks for the update Phil. I think the number of Supra key holders is a close to accurate number of real estate professionals in our local market right now, although there are some holding these keys as pest inspectors, appraisers and home inspectors. I don’t see how you could be an active real estate agent without a key. What I would love to know is of those holding the keys what is the average years of experience. I see the changes in our RE market having the affect of experienced agent leaving at this time. That is a shame as experience does matter in this industry.
At a recent broker meeting a representative from SAAR mentioned this Supra data to our group and it drew gasps. Then the rep went on to say that when SAAR studied transactions for the year by their members, 67% have ZERO closings in 2008. That seems unfathomable. I’m still not believing it.
Then I go to the bank…and I’m a believer!
One has to wonder how organizations like SAAR and Supra will react with dues pricing as their pool of participants dwindles.
