QR Codes? I don’t even know what that means…

QR CodeThat’s what I thought when I first heard about these handy little images. I credit Diane Flannigan (yes, she’s doing great in San Fran!) for first putting them on my radar. Shortly after they showed up, there they were again, and then once more. Once it hit 3 times in 2 weeks I decided to do some googling. Turns out these little barcode-like images make print media interactive. They make your listing flyers interactive. Here’s how…

QR Code Scanners

Consumers can download a free QR code reader app to their smart phones. I use BeeTagg on my blackberry. I’ve found ScanLife to work pretty well.  When the software is launched it turns the camera into a portable scanner. Using the app, if you take a picture of this QR code it will launch your phone’s web browser and take you to a specific web page on JohnHall.com.

Creating QR Codes

Creating these custom images is almost too simple. Thank you BeQRious for making it easy to build as many QR codes as I want (for free). According to Kaywa (another QR Code Creator) 90% of phones can read codes that are 3/4 in². It all depends on the resolution of the smart phone’s camera which are getting better and better with every new phone released.

QR Codes for Real Estate

If you add QR codes to your listing flyers then consumers can take a picture of them to access the virtual tour, single property website, or [fill in the blank]. If you like to live on the edge, you could even use multiple QR codes on a single flyer!

Have fun with this cool piece of technology!
