The John Hall & Associates agent contest to Win an iPad went down as a complete success! I had a blast checking out all the entries and like Dru Bloomfield said, “I was checking the intranet as much as facebook and twitter.” One of the primary goals of the contest was to get agents more comfortable with the discussion section on our intranet; mission accomplished!
We had 28 REALTORS® submit a total of 58 entries that included photos of their John Hall & Associates real estate signs. Varieties of themes including real deal marketing images, professional listings, local sceneries, retro and comical designs gave the judges some real tough decisions to make.
The entire corporate office was blown away by the quality of the entries we received. The creativity and originality was AWESOME. Even the photoshop skills that came out to play were impressive. The picture I thought was for sure going to win the whole thing didn’t even place in the top ten; the votes were spread across the board.
As much as I would love to share all the positive comments and feedback received from the judges, I know you’re here for one reason; and like all contests, in the end only one can receive the top prize.
Thank you all for coming together and supporting our contest. I am proud to be apart of this John Hall & Associates community.

Congratulations to Allen and Beth Rebenstorf for taking their post and sign underwater. Very clever marketing piece in today’s real estate environment!
Special thanks to all six judges (one of which asked to remain anonymous):
Wendy Mueller with Old Republic Home Protection
Cynthia Lujan with Old Republic Title
Bryan Jones with Clear Title
Diane Scherer with the Phoenix Association of REALTORS®
Dana Vivier with Vivier Wines
6 weeks ago we had an (overwhelming) overview of facebook pages.
2 weeks ago we narrowed our focus and did some brainstorming about topics for your facebook page.
This week we’re ready to add content to your page.
This week’s class will have a special guest. Real estate practitioner Dru Bloomfield, of the At Home In Scottsdale fame, will be joining us for our conversation. Dru recently spoke about facebook to a room full of REALTORS® at Agent Reboot. She referred to it as one of her 4 pillars of marketing. I’m excited that she’ll bring the practitioner’s perspective to the mix!
If you’d like to attend, please RSVP to psexton@johnhall.com. We’ve only got room for 20, so if you’re interested, speak up. There is no cost for our lunch and learns, and they are open to all REALTORS® – not just John Hall agents.
This is a hands-on session at our Phoenix Real Estate Office. Class is from 11am – 1pm and lunch will be provided thanks to the generosity of Bryan Jones from Clear Title and Stacey Gross from Old Republic Home Protection.
Typical dialogue between Jim and Phil:
“Did you see the article in the newspaper this weekend?”
“No, but I saw people talking about it on twitter and facebook on Friday!”
That’s exactly what happened with the recent Arizona Republic article Online marketing key to selling home.
This particular article caught his attention because it included 3 REALTORS® from John Hall & Associates (Dru Bloomfield, Leif Swanson, and yours truly) plus Jay Thompson and Don Mertes.
If you didn’t get a chance to read it – check it out! Don’t miss the 5 Questions to Ask Your Agent.
I have a feeling you have heard of Forbes magazine. Didn’t they just come out with their richest people in the world list? Anyway, like most printed publications they have an accompanying website – forbes.com. Pretty big organization. Highly popular around the world for credible business information. And yes, in an article titled Must Read Real Estate Blogs published yesterday they linked to John Hall & Associates agent – Dru Bloomfield’s Scottsdale Real Estate Blog.
Way cool Dru, Congratulations!
I recently attended one day of the three day session of the Arizona Association of REALTORS® 2009 Winter Conference in Prescott. It turned out to be a good day to attend; I not only saw many familiar faces but also caught the Social Media Networking panel discussion. Whenever I hear “social networking” I think of people after work imbibing adult beverages. There were NO adult beverages but I stayed anyway. Great panel, moderated by Amy Chorew and hosting Jay Thompson, Rob Gibbs, Phil Sexton and Dru Bloomfield. I was pretty proud that we had two representatives from John Hall & Associates on the panel.
Phil Sexton, the officially appointed “I.M.D.” (Internet Marketing Dude) of John Hall & Associates, talked about the online tools especially effective for managers and designated brokers. It is more effective, more efficient and cheaper than other types of broker- to- agent communication; it is also easier to store, reference and file that any other type of communication. We found out that some of the tools used by John Hall & Associates are “bad to the bone”!
Dru Bloomfield was an exceptionally informative panelist. Her success on Twitter was phenomenal; she has over 2,200 people following her! She must be truly doing it right if 2,200 followers have identified value in her information. The “how to” of it seems almost embarrassingly simple, as did her advice – “Be Yourself”. She “tweets” about those things important to her like special need children and real estate in general, but Scottsdale in particular. She only started doing this a year ago and considers it social capital just like community activities and volunteer work.
Great panel, great information and great learning opportunities. Congratulations Arizona Association of REALTORS® on an all around great day.

Dru showed us her blog post that highlights this really cool graph on the NY times website…
Well, that depends on lots! But a few of the variables this graph takes into consideration are…
◊ What’s the cost of the home?
◊ How much are you paying for rent?
◊ Are homes in the area appreciating or depreciating?
◊ How long do you plan on staying put?
◊ Are rents going up or down?
◊ What’s the interest rate on your mortgage?
◊ How much is your down payment?
◊ How much are the property taxes?
Pass this along to your buyers that are having trouble answering this question for themselves!
I feel like a broken record… and that’s a good thing!
Dru Bloomfield makes the local newscast for her use of technology in her real estate business. Dru, who has been with John Hall since Dec. of 2003 has been interviewed a few times lately! It’s good to see her new school technology bringing her old school publicity!
Congratulations … again!!!
Did you see the article in the Scottsdale Tribune on Sunday about the Scottsdale real estate market? It’s the one that Dru Bloomfield is quoted talking about her local market statistics. You can almost make out the web address on her sign rider!
Well done Dru, congratulations on the recent press!

If you’ve discovered Twitter and would like to get started, there’s a bit of protocol and a couple commands that you may find very helpful.
To post (or tweet), just start typing in the “What are you doing now?” box on the main Twitter screen. Twitter will keep track of how many of the 140 character maximum that you have left.
So your post could be something like this:
drubloomfield Just got back from Scottsdale MLS committee meeting — we are so ready for FlexMLS!
-or-
SethGodin Alphabetical order is obsolete: I love the alphabet and the fact that it has an order. There’s no reaso.. http://tinyurl.com/262vrj
If you want to follow someone, you can subscribe to their Twitter posts, if you know their Twitter name. Here’s a couple for you to start with:
Michael Wurzer- FlexMLS and FBS Blog
If you are responding to a “tweet” that someone directed to you and you want the world to see it, you can preface your comment with @username. So, if you wanted to send a message to Phil Sexton that all your followers can see, it would look like:
@psexton – Great background on your twitter page!
Now, if I want to send Phil a private message (i.e. a direct message), I would type:
d psexton – Who’s Michael?
Here are a couple user guides that are very helpful in understanding what twitter is and how you can use it to build your network, and your business.
And here’s a great little Twitter tweet sheet you can print out.
If you have any questions, just make a comment here, or stop by and see me on Twitter!
