Annual Holiday Meals for House of Refuge East Residents

Every year, for the past 12 years John Hall REALTORS® have sponsored the House of Refuge East during the holidays. These homeless families have met HRE’s strict definition of homelessness. They arrive at HRE with very little in the way of personal possessions and little if any financial means.

HRE’s mission is to provide transitional housing and supportive services to homeless individuals, families, and victims of domestic violence. Their purpose is to empower participants to experience healing and become self-sufficient.

Our mission is to collect sufficient donations that will provide a holiday meal for each HRE family. A meal costs about $50 and our goal is to collect enough for 100 meals this year. With the funds collected we purchase and deliver the meals and the remaining amount is donated to HRE in the form of grocery store gift cards so that they can provide whatever supplies the families need to prepare and serve the meal. HRE is a 501c3 approved charity so if you need a receipt for tax time just let Colleen Kolb @ AH office know.  All (100%) of the funds collected are used for the meals and gift cards to HRE.

These are tough times for everyone and more so for the folks who find themselves is such dire straits that they must turn to agencies like HRE for help.  Please turn your donation into your Office Manager or put in the office run to Arrowhead.  We don’t need the money until December 1st but the sooner we have it the less we will worry about when it will come in. Sort of like close of escrow, the sooner the better.

When it comes time to pick up and deliver we always need a hand to load and unload and the more hands the better. Each meal serves 6 so there is a lot to carry. We will be picking up meals at the Fry’s at 67th Ave and Bell Rd on December 15th. And, we deliver to HRE in Mesa at the former Williams Air Force Base. Tom Boyles and Lou Migliore at Arrowhead have donated the transportation.

House of Refuge East – Final Tally

We Did It!!!!!

Actually, we went above and beyond our goal! As of Tuesday, December 29th, we raised $5,470 for the House of Refuge East (HRE). We would like to extend a big thank you to all who contributed – not only monetarily, but also of your time. We were not only able to supply HRE with all of their requested Holiday Meals, but also supply them with Fry’s Gift Cards to use throughout the year!

Thank you again to all who helped make other’s Holiday Season just a little brighter!

Update: Mike rocks the House of Refuge East – Holiday Charity

To all,

We are off to a really good start, we already have 10 meals covered (checks in hand) and another half dozen or so pledges to cover a meal. That is wonderful!

Just so everyone knows who is doing what on the holiday meal drive and to make sure we have all the bases covered(if I missed one let me know):

Colleen, Louise, Lynne, and Becky are collecting pledges/donations and forwarding to Arrowhead. Also, posting the weekly update poster(will be out next Wednesday) and the individual donation posters (Colleen will get them to you as she receives the checks). Also, the appeal letter is out and thanks to each of you for the printing/placing them in the mail boxes. That was awesome!

Emmy McLeish is taking care of the voicemail announcements (will start as soon as the voice fairy returns her voice in a day or so) and will get them recorded and over to Toni for distribution. Toni is all ready to send them out.

Lou Migliore and Tom Boyles are taking care of running the transportation (pickup from Fry’s and delivery to HRE).

Colleen is collecting the donations and will take care of disbursing to Fry’s for the meals and also ordering and paying for the Fry’s gift cards (we buy them in $20 increments).

Fry’s – the meals have been ordered and will be ready for pickup on Dec 16th at the 67th Ave and Bell store. Meal will be ham, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls and an apple pie and will be large enough to serve six people. HRE has requested ham instead of turkey as it is easier to move and easier for the recipients (they don’t arrive at HRE with turkey carving forks and knives or much of anything else.).

Leif Swanson (PV) and Helen Pugh (Scottsdale) will approach the vendors that are regular visitors to their offices. Becky will cover that in Tempe and Mike and Colleen will cover Arrowhead.

Colleen is also coordinating with HRE.

Phil is putting our drive on the blog and will help keep up the e-publicity for the meal drive.

Bill is running the update poster (Becky would like 3 for Tempe) and distributing it as well as picking up donations and dropping at Arrowhead. Bill will also help with the email blasts.

Lucky will be helping coordinate with the Scottsdale and PV and the Luxury Home group. Lucky is moving last week and this week so you will start to hear from him next week. Don’t ask him what Sue wanted/made him do in the new house, you don’t have enough time left in your career.

Marge and Jim will help with publicity at the Broker meetings.

So, Phil asks, what the heck is Mike doing. Well, thanks to all of you, a whole lot less than I thought I might have gotten myself into. Thank you, it sure has made it easier with each of you picking up a piece of the “pie”.

And, I leave you with one thought – Homeless children never make the decision or are part of the process that made them homeless.
