John Hall & Associates in Residential Executive Magazine
Check it out! (page 15) We were interviewed for the company profile section of August’s Residential Executive Magazine. You might have noticed REM looks like Broker Agent Magazine on steroids. That’s partly due to the fact that Mandy Purcell, long-time editor of Phoenix’s Broker Agent, started a new publishing company – MP Magazines. MP Magazines is currently responsible for publishing Commercial Executive, Residential Executive and we hear there will be a mortgage mag before she’s done. The best part of the new magazine…THEY ARE ONLINE! We think her web designer did a good job with the cool preview feature.

Here's a quick story about the technology evolution.
Text messaging is nothing new. Chances are you have an unlimited text messaging plan. What’s new are the different industries that are beginning to embrace their power. We just got word from an agent that a channel 12 news reporter contacted her via text message. The reporter was looking for a real estate agent to interview for a story about Scottsdale home sales – check it out.
It makes communicating so much quicker. Pretty cool huh?!
John Hall & Associates Ranks 4th for Sales Volume
We made the list! The Phoenix Business Journal recently published their 2008 Book of Lists. They rank practically every category of business in Phoenix. In their most recent Book, John Hall & Associates is ranked 4th for Local Residential Sales Volume. We have been holding strong in that position, coming in 4th last year as well.
The List reports that John Hall & Associates had 1.36 billion dollars of sales volume in 3,821 transactions done by 741 real estate agents working out of 4 branch offices where a total of 35 management and/or support staff work… just in case you missed it. And, although we didn’t submit to the REALTOR® Magazine list, we’re happy to know we would have ranked 83rd in the country for sales volume.
Not bad for our locally owned brokerage.

Our golf commitee is hard at work planning for the John Hall & Associates Golf Classic for MDA. This year we are playing at the exclusive FireRock Country Club in Fountain Hills. We have room for 124 golfers. Just in case you are interested in participating on May 12th here is an entry form.
Of course in our attempt to raise lots of money for MDA we are asking for interested sponsors to step forward. There are lots of different levels to choose from or you can also donate a gift to be given away as a prize.
We are proud to say that over the life of the tournament John Hall & Associates has been able to donate over $700,000! Our goal this year is to add $45,000 to that. See you there!
The Government has quit "kicking em while they're down!"
In the past, if your home was sold for less than you owed on a mortgage and the lender forgave some of the debt you owed - most sellers got taxed on the amount forgiven similar to normal income.
As of December 20th, a new bill was passed that relieves many home sellers of this tax. The home has to have been sold between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2009. If you have any questions about a specific transaction – CONSULT A TAX ADVISOR!

Okay – this just in! Check out the January 2008 issue of Phoenix REALTOR® Forum (a publication of the Phoenix Association of REALTORS®). Page 6 you will find a picture of Jim Sexton speaking with Nate Martinez (2008 PAR President).
It doesn’t appear they have this issue posted online quite yet – so you’ll have to look for him in your hard copy.
